Skiing with young kids for the first time can be a stressful experience. A trip to the grocery store can end in a meltdown so what’s going to happen on the slopes? We decided to give it a try anyway and headed off to Blue Mountain in Pennsylvania.

First time on skis

Blue Mountain has a ski school program called Explorers for ages 4-12. It includes their lift ticket and gear for $129 on weekends. This was great for our five-year old but our three-year old didn’t make the cut. They also have an option for private lessons for ages as young as three, but this doesn’t include their rentals and can start to get costly.

We decided to enroll our oldest in Explorers and so did our friends who also have a five year old. The got to be ski-buddies and had a great time in what we basically a two hour one-on-one class.

For our three-year old we rented him skis and boots for $40 and took him to the bunny hill. At Blue Mountain kids under six ski for free and after the older boys’ lesson was over they joined him on the bunny hill.

All in all they had a wonderful time and seeing the look of satiafaction on their faces was great. We can’t wait to hit the slopes with them again soon.
